PLANNING A PROGRAM

One shoe does not fit all. For a program to be effective it must be designed for the individual and take into count an individuals needs. There are numerous models that can be used when creating a program to support an individual with a disability. ADAM inc uses the following strategies to develop an effective ongoing program for Adam.

Teamwork – Adam, his family and friends work together to see what is required. These are the people who know Adam's strengths and weaknesses and how they can be developed to benefit him. Other groups are called upon to give advice and support when it is required. These may include individuals or agencies involved in education, health or recreation etc. The list here is endless.

Short and Long Term Goals – Developing goals provides a focus for now and the future, and gives a benchmark for progress. Are goals being achieved? How can they be provided? Have they changed? What needs to be revised?

Specifics – Provide information that relates to the individual so it can be useful now and for his/her future. Adam's program focused on the following four key areas. About me. Likes and Dislikes. Communication and Support, My Goals. These four areas allow his support team to develop and build on his plan.
